Welcome Tarves Primary School serves the children of the village and the surrounding area, and is situated some 16 miles from the City of Aberdeen and 7 miles from Ellon. The School's catchment area is quite extensive and children from the outlying areas are transported by bus to and from school. The village, with its traditional buildings, has seen three main housing estates built around it. The most recent of these estates being developed in 1992. The school building itself dates from 1911 and has been enlarged over time. It served as a Junior Secondary/Primary School until 1979, when secondary teaching was transferred to Ellon. In August 2002, a Nursery was added to the buildings west wing.
